Kathmandu, Aug. 8: The Nepalese Army (NA) has given promotions to its players performing well in the different national and international games. They include six players under different departments. The NA granted promotions on these players and also conferred the insignia on them amidst a function here today. The players receiving the promotion and insignia include Devi Bahadur Basnet (athletics), Tarakanta Chaudhari (volley ball), Dambar Bahadur Badawal (kabaddi), Chun Bahadur Thapa (football), Sunita Mahartjan (shooting) and Himal Aryal (wheelchair basketball). Basnet had won three gold medals in the Ntaional Athletics Championship held in 2006/07.

He worked as an instructor at the Army Club for long. Similarly, Chaudhari has bagged gold medals in different national volley ball tournaments and had also participated in the Asian Games held in Pakistan in 2010/2011. Likewise, Badawal came out second in the Kabaddi World Cup held in India, third in the South Asian Games held in Bangladesh in 2003 and won a gold medal in the Fifth National Games. Thapa came out first in the AFC Challenge Cup Football Championship held in Cambodia in 2008. He was in the national football team and also worked as a player in the Tribhuvan Army Club. Basnet, Chaudhari, Badawal and Thapa have been promoted from Warrant Officer level 2 to Warrant Officer level 1. Maharjan had come out first in the First Lumbini National Shooting Competition while Aryal had clinched the first position in the Third National Wheelchair Basketball Championship held in 2012. Both them have been offered promotions from the rank of Seargent to Warrant Officer level 2.

Addressing the function, Chief of the Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Rana said that the Nepalese Army has been holding various national and international level sports competitions for the development and promotion of the sports sector. Belauri (Kanchanpur), Aug. 5: The airport in Kanchanpur district has turned into a grazing land for lack of operational of air services for long. The airport located at Bhimdutta Municipality-17, Majhgaun, has become a pasture for lack of operational of air services. Locals around the airport have started grazing their cattle at the airport. Padam Bhatta of Majhgaun said that he has been grazing his cattle at the airport area for the past five year.

 

Locals of Kanchanpur district have been deprived of air services for the lack of operational of air services since 2046 BS. Although industrialists, businessmen and local leaders had taken initiatives in the bodies concerned to resume the air services closed for the past 25 years, but in vain. Former president of the Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Hemraj Pandey, complained that the KCCI had requested different bodies concerned of the state time and again to resume the air services, but no initiatives were taken from the bodies concerned for the same.

Kathmandu, July 30: A meeting of the CA Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) held Wednesday formed an eight-member sub-committee to prepare a report of consensus forged by the dispute resolution sub-committee formed under the then Constitutional Committee.



The sub-committee has been given until August 5 to submit its report. The sub-committee consists of lawmakers Arjunnar Singh KC, Keshav Prasad Badal, Dimpal Kumari Jha, Dilnath Giri, Prem Bahadur Singh, Laxman Rajbansi, Laxmanlal Karna and Shiva Kumar Mandal Kewat.


According to Committee’s Section Officer Laxman Aryal, the progress of talks between the preliminary talks sub-committee and the political parties outside the CA, stakeholders and armed groups held on July 27 and 28 were shared at the meeting.


The sub-committee held talks with different eight political parties outside the CA.
The meeting has also asked other political parties and stakeholders to participate in the constitution writing process by finding a solution for it through peaceful means. RSS

Kathmandu, July 30: Various political parties’ leaders, former foreign ministers and foreign affairs experts have expressed their confidence that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nepal would be fruitful and result-oriented in taking the age-old Indo-Nepal relations to a new height.


At a face-to-face programme organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal in the capital on Wednesday, the speakers stressed that the visit should be made productive for bilateral economic prosperity and development by further consolidating relations at top political-level based on mutual trust rather than give and take.


Unified CPN (Maoist) Vice-Chairperson and former Energy Minister Posta Bahadur Bogati said common minimum understanding should be forged on the issues of national importance, adding Indian cooperation should be sought in infrastructure development such as construction of any parts of Mid-Hill Highway or Postal Roads.


"The Power Trade Agreement (PTA) should be inked. It should be dealt in a way that maintains our freedom to supply our power in any market albeit India is the major one’, he added.

Kathmandu, July 30: Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang has directed Parliament Secretariat General Secretary Manohar Prasad Bhattarai to carry out necessary work to reach the Bill relating to contempt of court, 2071 B.S. to the people for their feedback.

 
Speaker Nembang directed General Secretary Bhattarai to have the bill published in the Nepal Gazette so as to reach it to the people at large. Earlier, the meeting today of the Legislature-Parliament had endorsed publicity of the Bill in order to collect people’s feedback on it. RSS

Kathmandu, July 30:  Minister for Health and Population, Khagaraj Adhikari, has said the government would provide free treatment to the people affected with the sickle-cell anemia.

Responding to the queries of legislators regarding the spread of sickle cell anemia in the Tharu community, Minister Adhikari, said at the Legislature-Parliament meeting on Wednesday, that Nepal Health Research Council has already begun study on the spread of the disease among Tharu community in various six districts in the west Tarai.

 
However, he said it was worrying that though the control of sickle-cell anemia was mentioned in the government’s policy and programme it was not included in the budget. RSS
